statement released by the United States Navy reveals a breach in classified information on over 130,000 Navy personnel.

A laptop used by an employee of Hewlett Packard Enterprise Services seemed to have been accessed by “Anonymous” hackers. HP was awarded a large contract by the US Navy in 2013. The information that was leaked included names and social security numbers of the sailors that can pose a grave risk to their privacy and personal security.

According to Chief of Naval Personnel Vice Adm. Robert Burke, “We are in the early stages of investigating and are working quickly to identify and take care of those affected by this breach.”Though thus far no one has misused the information that was breached, time will tell if this is a fair assessment.
